The pre TSE Post

So I use to blog a bit...then it got a bit boring and appeared to be somewhat self indulgent. Therefore, this new blog is primarily going to be my take on races I do (not my about "my racing"). I will do my best to focus on my perspective of the event and the racing as a whole.

A few months ago another rider on the Stoudts Brewing Co./JB Mountain Bike team decided to sign up for the Transylvania Epic 7 Day Mountain Bike Stage Race, in the DUO category. Yeah not sure what we were thinking. I am a singlespeed sport / endurance racer for the Mid Atlantic Super Series. When I started to see the stacked field of serious pros, I became intimidated but more excited to have the chance to ride with this folks for an entire week. In addition, it would be a great week of camping with my VERY accomodating wife and 4 year old son.

So far, the packing itself has been exhausting. Just an FYI, it takes 2 full days to back for a family of 3 going to a 7 day stage race....

Tomorrow the race starts with a 10.5 mile prolog and our check in is at 10am. Therefore, due to our 7am departure, I will be hitting the sack early tonight.

So on the eve of the hardest race I have encountered, I sit with moderate trepidation, excitement beyond any race in my past, and the hope of meeting new riding mates, a terrific outdoor week vacation with my family, and the will to test my self physically and mentally. Check back each day this week for end of the stage updates and hopefully some good pics.
